DIVORCE

Divorce is never easy. We work ardently to protect your rights and will fight to obtain the outcome you desire. Our extensive experience will help you navigate these unwelcome waters to work within the law and find resolution.

CUSTODY

One of the most impactful decisions a judge is called upon to make is in the field of Child Custody. Adding to the complexity is people's circumstances changes constantly. The Wood Law Firm has extensive experience with Child Custody in Oregon and has successfully argued on behalf of families in front of many courts.

CHILD SUPPORT

Child Support is an on-going, periodic payment paid by a parent. The money is for the financial benefit of the child and is generally paid on a monthly basis. The parents may come to an agreement on their own or through the Court, but it is governed by State law and must be calculated correctly.

SAME SEX COUPLES

Same sex marriage is recognized both federally and in the State of Oregon. Oregon also recognizes registered domestic partnerships, which falls under an area of law that is separate and different from traditional dissolutions. We will assist in making the right decisions and help you handle your matter towards your desired goals.

ALIMONY

Oftentimes a spouse becomes financially dependent on the other during the course of a marriage. When the relationship concludes, one person may be required to pay alimony to the other due to their inability to provide for their own financial needs and obligations.

PATERNITY

Establishing paternity, or the state of being someone's father, can determine child support, among other paternal financial obligations. Consult The Wood Law Firm if you need to have paternity established in the life of a minor child.

MODIFICATION

Many life events occur which warrant the modification of child support, alimony, parenting time, and other orders made by the Court. The Wood Law Firm is experienced in proper calculation and petitioning the Court to successfully modify an Order.

GRANDPARENTS & STEPPARENTS

Under certain circumstances, third parties such as grandparents and stepparents may ask the Court for visitation and/or custody of a minor child. It is a high burden of proof, however, and takes into consideration the best interests of the child as well as the relationship between the child and the parents. The Wood Law Firm fights for these third party rights to prevent as much unneeded emotional or physical  neglect as possible.

PROPERTY DIVISION

Financial independence is important when dividing marital assets and liabilities. Make sure both supply and have a complete profile of your spouse or partner in order to equitably divide all responsibilities. Remember that Oregon is an equitable distribution state, so a 50/50 split is rare.

STALKING & RESTRAINING ORDERS

Orders for protection, including for stalking and restraint, are meant to provide an added layer of legal protection when a person has been alarmed by the action of another. They can be temporary or permanent, and will ultimately be decided at a hearing by a Judge. The Wood Law Firm represents both plaintiffs and defendants for these protective orders.
